Job Description

PREVENTION/INTERVENTION SPECIALIST

Family House Norristown is a long-term residential treatment facility for chemically dependent women and their children. Special components address drug/alcohol addiction and parenting skills, as well as prevention and intervention for the children. Family House is one of only a few programs nationwide that work with mother and child in a residential treatment setting.The Prevention Specialist will be working with children ages 0 to 5.

Job Duties/Responsibilities:  
 
Implement Prevention/Intervention Curriculum
  • Facilitate structured daily pre-school activities
  • Develop prevention activities for children birth to five years to enhance growth and development that will aid in diminishing the probability of the use of alcohol and drugs.
  • Develop intervention activities for children birth to five years that encourage appropriate expression of emotions and teach problem-solving skills.
  • Implement Individual Education Plan
  • Develop daily/weekly lesson plans
  • Tutor school-aged children as needed
  • Confer with parents in bi-monthly conference to discuss child(ren)'s progress/difficulties
Clinical
  • Complete Developmental Assessment of children birth to five years within two weeks of admission and at prior to discharge.
  • Create Individual Education Plan
  • Facilitate structured activities for school-aged children to encourage expression of feelings
  • Attend Clinical Case Consultation, Treatment Planning Update meetings, and clinical supervision as scheduled.
  • Assist residents in conflict resolution.
  • Provide crisis intervention.
  • Participate in milieu therapy
Supervision          
  • Supervise foster grandparents, student interns, client daycare assistant, and/or teacher's assistants.
Documentation
  • Document weekly observations of identified children birth to five years.
  • Document supervision sessions
  • Document and discuss any concerns regarding the children or parents with the Prevention/Intervention teacher.
Other Responsibilities
  • As assigned by the Director(s) to insure continuity of care and foster a supportive environment for growth
 
Minimum Qualifications:
  • Associate's Degree in Early Childhood Education with 1-2 years of experience accepted; Bachelor's Degree in Early Childhood Education or Social Work with 1 year of experience preferred.
  • Valid drivers licensed required
