Certified Peer Specialist (CPS)

Philosophy of Services Acknowledgement:
Haldeman-Grant is a residential program that provides the services needed for an individual to maintain independence in the community around them.  Haldeman-Grant support's individuals who are Aging In Place and require support, medically, mentally, emotionally, and socially.  Haldeman-Grant fosters a nurturing atmosphere of trust, support, independence, and safety.  It is a program that facilitates growth by building trust between the staff and the program participants.  Support services, at Haldeman-Grant, are person-centered and bi-lateral with an equal exchange between the participant and staff.  The focus remains wellness and recovery. 

At Haldeman-Grant, staff are available around-the-clock to provide participants with individual support and attention.  The goal is to support and encourage the development of life-skills necessary to sustain successful living in the community.  These skills will aid the program participant in successfully transitioning throughout their various stages of life.  Haldeman-Grant operates on the common belief that, by responding to the basic good and strength in people, we create our best opportunity for maximizing positive individual commitment and responsibility.  This approach applies to staff, program participants, and families alike.  

Position Overview:
The Certified Peer Specialist (CPS) provides certified peer specialist services.  CPS services consist of peer support services, advocacy for Program Participant, sharing of coping skills, and providing recovery information for Program Participants.  The CPS performs a wide range of tasks to assist Program Participants in regaining control over their own recovery process.  This includes but is not limited to the development of natural supports, development of social interactions in the community, and management of symptoms that challenge wellness in an individual. 

Responsibilities:
  • Provide supportive peer services to Program Participants.
  • Role model wellness and recovery.
  • Identify recovery goals to assist Program Participants with managing interpersonal relationships and community integration activities. 
  • Lead the implementation of WRAPs with Program Participants:
    • Engage in discussions with Program Participants about WRAPs,
    • Facilitate creation and integration of WRAPs as desired by Program Participants, 
    • Facilitate WRAP groups as needed.
  • Use Motivational Interviewing in individual and groups settings:
    • Explore and identify problem solving techniques with individuals,
    • Explore and identify skills to combat negative self-talk,
    • Explore and identify techniques to overcome fears, and
    • Explore and identify coping strategies and relapse prevention skills. 
  • Share recovery -orientated educational materials.
  • Submit daily documentation of services and activities provided to Clinical Supervisor.
  • Attend all trainings as required by regulations and as desired for professional development.
  • Attend program staff meetings. 
  • Complete all other assigned tasks as designated by the Clinical Supervisor and Program Director.
Required Qualifications:

Education
  • Certified Peer Specialist Certification 
  • HS Diploma/GED
  • At least 2 years working with others in Mental Health Recovery
Knowledge/Skills
  • Knowledge of recovery principles and tools
  • Certified Peer Specialist service expectations
  • Knowledge of WRAP.
  • Ability to utilize the RHD values and values of Certified Peer Specialists in supervision
  • Unconditional ability to maintain HIPA regulations
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and a team player
  • Able to communicate in a written and verbal format
  • Ability to document daily activities and recovery goals 
  • Ability to role model recovery and hope
  • Demonstrate Initiative
  • Ability to hear anecdotal information and reframe in the context of facts and data in an empathic manner.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, Outlook)
  • Ability to support and implement RHD and unit values and beliefs
  • Demonstrate effective time management skills and follow through
Other Requirements/Certifications:
  • Valid PA State ID.
  • State police clearance.
  • FBI clearance and/or Child Abuse Clearance.
