Job Description

RHD North Carolina is a comprehensive supportive residential setting for adults who have medical and behavioral complications. Residents participate in services that focus on life skills that will maximize the ability of each individual to live in the community as independently as possible.

Job Duties/Responsibilities:
RHD NC is seeking full-time and part-time Direct Support Professionals (DSP) to support persons having Intellectual and/or Developmental Disabilities (ID/D) living in their own homes. The DSP shall support individuals with personal hygiene, dressing, eating, drinking, medication, cooking, money management skills, physical exercise, home care and upkeep. The DSP will also play an important role in helping individuals expand their circle friendships, pursue community interests and assist the individual with getting to and from day activities as needed. The primary goal of Supported Living is to provide the opportunity individuals with developmental disabilities to live in the community with persons of their choice while receiving necessary supports to remain safe and healthy in the community. Each case is individualized.

Essential Duties and Functions
  • Work with residents to achieve goals outlined in the personal plan/ISP (Individual Support Plan)
  • Work closely with supervisory staff to assess and report on resident's knowledge, values, skills, and needs.
  • Work with resident and natural supports to develop meaningful activities of residents choosing
  • Promote and encourage health and safety in the home and community
  • Complete required program documentation, per State and Federal guidelines
  • Attend all required in-service training and all-staff meetings
  • Assist with daily living skills including:
    • Eating skills
    • Dressing skills
    • Toileting skills
    • Body care skills
    • Healthcare skills
    • Shopping for personal needs
    • Food preparation skills
    • Clothing care skills
    • Understanding of how their accomplished skills relate to the world of work
Job Qualifications
  • Must have high school diploma/GED
  • Prefer 2 years' experience (personal/professional) with individual with ID/D.
  • A valid diver's license is required.
  • Strong problem solving skills
  • Be able to communicate effectively, orally and in writing with individual supported and other staff
  • Must be able to work independently and as a member of a team. 
  • Must be Kind, Caring, Compassionate
  • Demonstrate flexibility
  • Be able to honor the individuals choices
Salary and Benefits
Salary: $10.00-$13.00 hour
Benefits: Health and vision insurance, paid holidays, vacation and sick leave, short term disability and death and dismemberment policy.  Full time staff may purchase dental and life insurance at competitive rates.  Live in opportunities for appropriate candidates.
